Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's

1. What is Choose Running Foundation?
Choose Running Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers people to process grief, trauma, and loss through the transformative power of running and faith. We help runners turn their pain into purpose by supporting them to run for causes close to their hearts.
2. What does “a charity that supports other charities” mean?
We partner with individuals and organizations to raise funds for meaningful causes — from cancer research and mental health programs to youth initiatives and community care. We cover race fees, gear, and travel expenses so runners can focus on making an impact, not covering costs.
3. Who does Choose Running Foundation help?
We support anyone who has experienced loss, grief, or trauma and wants to find healing through endurance and faith. We also help other nonprofits amplify their reach by providing a platform for runners to fundraise and advocate for their missions.
4. Does any race or event count?
Yes! Whether it’s a local 5K, half marathon, triathlon, or a full Ironman, every event counts. We believe every step — regardless of distance — has the power to bring healing, purpose, and connection.
5. How much financial support can I receive?
Support levels vary based on need, fundraising goals, and event type. We often help cover race entry fees, gear, and travel expenses for registered Choose Running athletes. The goal is to remove financial barriers so you can focus on running for healing and impact.
6. How does running help with grief and trauma?
Running engages both body and spirit — providing a healthy outlet to process pain and rebuild endurance. The physical movement mirrors the emotional journey: steady, challenging, but always moving forward. It’s not just about finishing a race; it’s about reclaiming your story.
7. How is Choose Running funded?
We’re supported through donations, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising events. Every dollar directly fuels our mission — helping people heal, empowering runners, and funding causes close to their hearts.
8. Is my donation considered a tax write-off?
Yes. Choose Running Foundation is a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. You’ll receive a donation receipt for your records.
9. How do I become a sponsor?

10. What if I get injured and can’t race?
We understand that life happens — including injuries. If you can’t race, your support and fundraising can still make an impact. We’ll work with you to:

  • Transfer your entry or defer your participation to a future event.
  • Redirect your fundraising to another athlete or partner cause.
  • Keep you connected with the community until you’re ready to return.

Healing takes time — and we’ll be here when you’re ready to lace up again.

Not at all. Choose Running is about movement, not medals. Whether you’re walking your first 5K or training for an Ironman, you belong here.
